Hot tips for a standout sale listing

Whether you're hosting a sale online or in the community (restrictions allowing of course), stand out from the crowd with these tips to take your garage sale listing from oh to oh-em-gee.

IT'S ALL IN THE NAME

Be funny, smart and snappy to cut through the clutter and grab shoppers attention. As the song says "Express yourself!" We really like a few of these examples.

TELL PEOPLE WHAT YOU'RE SELLING

If you’ve got it, flaunt it. Focus on your spesh stuff. Identify the 3 - 5 best items you’re selling, mention them when you advertise your sale and post an item a week on your socials to lure in the bargain hungry shoppers.

ADD PICS OF YOU AND YOUR STUFF

People remember pictures six times better than words, so make your advertising memorable and add some snaps. Put pics of your stuff up, put pics of yourself up, and on the day put pics of your sale up. Think of it like a dating app but for garage sales. You can update the pictures on your sale listing at any time by logging in to your seller dashboard.

PAYPAL QR CODE PAYMENTS

If you're hosting a sale IRL, it's quick (and free) to set up touch-free QR code payments using the PayPal app*. Shoppers simply scan with their PayPal app, pay and go. Hosting a sale online? You can set up a unique PayPal.Me link and add this to your sale page for online payments.

ADD SOME EXTRA YOU

You’re one in a million trillion, so reflect yourself in your sale. Green thumbed? Offer gardening tips with every purchase. Love Dolly Parton? Get your best country outfit on and get ‘em down to your Dollywood sale.

TELL PEOPLE WHAT YOU’RE DOING WITH THE $$

People like to know where their money’s going - whether it’s being passed on to charity or just so you can enjoy a smashed avo in the fanciest of cafes.

NOW SING IT FROM THE SOCIALS

No one got rich being a wallflower, so now your sale page is looking schmick, share the URL in your socials or use these handy tiles and Instagram stickers to spread the word. Be sure to tag @GarageSaleTrail and use #garagesaletrail so we can promote your sale too.

If you're looking to promote your sale offline too, you can download ready-made letterbox slips, posters and other free promo materials from your seller dashboard.
