SHOPPERS SET TO UNCOVER TREASURES IN LIVINGSTONE SHIRE COUNCIL
There’s no better feeling than finding some pre-loved treasure at a bargain price and this year’s Garage Sale Trail in Livingstone Shire Council, on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 October, is shaping up to be the biggest sustainable shopping extravaganza ever with more than 400,000 people expected to participate across 18,000+ garage sales nationally.
The national reuse and community initiative now in its ninth year is offering up a wealth of practical, quirky, collectable and colourful secondhand finds for shoppers across the nation.
The program is made possible locally by Livingstone Shire Council and this year will support over 112 (as of 8/10/2019) garage sales by local residents and community groups.
Garage Sale Trail Co-Founder Andrew Valder said, “With thousands of listings on the Garage Sale Trail there’s a wealth of weird and wonderful things for sale around the country this year including oodles of pre-loved and vintage fashion, over 500 dance costumes, blacksmithing tools, a collection of Simpsons memorabilia, a 100 year old American organ and a room full of treasures that a family in Queensland found in a hidden room they found in their new house.”
Weird and wonderful aside, Garage Sale Trail provides thousands of Australians with a chance to re-home items that may otherwise end up in landfill.
According to the Gumtree’s 2019 Secondhand Economy Report, 89% of Australians have unwanted stuff and 33% admit to throwing unwanted items in the bin. Nationally these unwanted items are valued at over $43 billion.
Selling stuff you no longer need at a Garage Sale Trail is a great way to do your bit for the environment and meet some of your neighbours at the same time. With thousands of items for sale you never know what you’ll find!
Shoppers can map out sales they’d like to visit over the weekend for free by searching the map and creating a Trail at www.garagesaletrail.com.au
