No garage? No worries

Think garage sales are only for people with front yards and driveways? Think again.

If you live in a flat, unit block or apartment, you don’t have to miss out on Australia’s biggest secondhand treasure hunt. In fact, hosting a sale at your block can be one of the most social ways to take part.

We chatted to vintage aficionado and all round superstar Mouna Stona who has taken part from her unit block in Marrickville for the last three years to find out how she does it.

A. I love taking part in Garage Sale Trail because I feel like my garage sale is supported by the large network of community taking part.

I know people will find my little sale & it feels like a celebration of secondhand and vintage.

A. I live in a small block of 6 units - I write everyone a note and check if they want to take part or if they object and so far (3 times now) everyone has been supportive - they come hangout and help and it’s really lovely.

A. Selling as a unit is great to know the people around you - I have helped older neighbours sell items they no longer want and I’ve made stronger connections all whilst making some cash!

A. One of my favourite secondhand pieces is my HMV 1940s Bakelite radiogram. I’ve had it since I was 18 and bought it for $50. My favourite thing is stacking 5 records up and having a little lounge room party.
