Chelsea Thomas, I Heart Bargains – Garage Sale Trail Ambassador

Chelsea Thomas

What’s your name and where are you from?

Chelsea Thomas, Founder I Heart Bargains – www.iheartbargains.com.au – where everything is under $100.

Why are you excited to be a Garage Sale Trail ambassador?

I am an avid bargain shopper so it’s in my blood to stop off at garage sales and find those hidden gems. The fact that there’s an event dedicated to the excitement and also the wonderful recycling that’s happening is good for bargain hunters and lovers of the environment as well.

What’s the best thing about garage sales?

You just don’t know what you’re going to find. Another man's trash is another’s treasure….isn’t that what they say?

What’s the best thing you’ve ever bought at a garage sale?

I found some beautiful side tables recently. And the age of them was perfect – I couldn’t have found this antique-look buying them brand new!

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever seen for sale at a garage sale?

A fully decked out pink house…..for a cat

What would be your dream garage sale find?

A vintage Chanel handbag. Because I can’t afford the real thing.

What’s the most treasured possession in your garage?

My spray tan booth. Can’t live without it!

What’s your best tip for ‘garage sale etiquette?’

Don’t barter too hard. So many people buying at markets and garage sales barter the owner down to 50c or $1. Sometimes I find that a bit unfair. Make sure you have some change as well!

What’s your top sustainability tip?

Upcycle outfits where you can, rather than throwing out and buying new pieces. By putting a white shirt under a summer shift dress, you have created a winter look.

Find people in your life that really appreciate your second hand goods and hand down. I do this with all of my baby’s clothes and that way many babies get a wear them!
