Chelsea Thomas, Chief Bargain Hunter from I Heart Bargains

Chelsea Thomas

Why are you excited to be a Garage Sale Trail ambassador?

I am an avid bargain shopper so it’s in my blood to stop off at garage sales and find those hidden gems. The fact that there’s an event dedicated to the excitement and also the wonderful recycling that’s happening is good for bargain hunters and lovers of the environment as well.

What’s your top sustainability tip?

Upcycle outfits where you can, rather than throwing out and buying new pieces. By putting a white shirt under a summer shift dress, you have created a winter look.

The best thing I've ever bought is a 1950's glass cocktail shaker in perfect condition. That one got added to my personal collection.

What’s the best thing about garage sales?

Garage sales are a fantastic opportunity to turn your trash into someone else’s treasure and vice versa. There are so many awesome things to be found! Not only that, they are a great way to reduce your environmental impact by lessening your burden on landfill.

What’s the best thing you’ve ever bought at a garage sale?

A beautiful, old chair with a great frame and structure that I had reupholstered. It’s one of my favourite pieces! It just needed some TLC at the time. I think I paid about $15 for it from memory.
