Never Ever Pay Retail: Best Fashion Sales in Brisbane

Score a wardrobe haul on the Garage Sale Trail

by Hannah Klose

If you’re anything like me and have to pull over every time you see an opshop, or a good garage sale, then clear your calendar for the nationwide Garage Sale Trail on 20 & 21 October 2018!

I’ve been hitting the trail hard the last few years and have cleaned up each time; from trench coats for $4, to leather satchels for $2, the quality and the prices have been off the charts!

Aside from scoring a massive wardrobe haul, there are so many reasons to shop the trail this year…it’s kind on your wallet and the planet, it helps to drive down demand for sweatshop goods, and your retail therapy will actually help some of the charities who are taking part this year…I call that a win, win! You’ll also get a chance to meet your neighbours, and cross paths with people in your community that you wouldn’t otherwise meet, which is kinda cool.

To make life really easy for those of you in Brisbane, I’ve put together my top five picks for preloved clothing below, but if you’re interstate you can create your own itinerary with the Garage Sale Treasure Trail dashboard here.

Happy hunting!

Here’s my top five…

Toowong Hands and Hearts Fair Pre-Loved Market

First up on the list is the preloved market at Toowong, running from 9am - 6pm as part of the local state school’s fair. This market is well known for high quality, well priced clothing so it’s definitely worth a sticky beak. Their non-hanging clothes are going for $2, hanging clothes are $5, or you can bulk buy 4 hanging items for $15 and 5 items for $20! Can I get a witness?

37 St Osyth Street, Toowong

Saturday 20th, 9am - 6pm

Silky Oaks Opp shop

Silky Oaks Opp Shop in Manly West is already a bargain bonanza with their ongoing fill-a-bag deals, but for the Garage Sale Trail they’re going all out, so run don’t walk!

218 Manly Road, Manly West

Ringara St Sale

Three words that always get my heart rate up - “everything must go”! These guys are having a massive clearance sale before they move overseas so you know you’re going to score a bargain as they’ll be pretty keen to clear it all out! They’re selling women clothing sizes 6-10 so don’t miss this one!

Saturday 20th, 9am - 1pm

Pop Up Balcony Sale

From 50 cent bargain goodies, to beautiful vintage treats and brands like Sass & Bide and Camilla, they’ll have something for everyone. Mostly men and women's clothing, shoes and accessories, as well as plenty of miscellaneous and home wares!
